Wake up and put your beach shorts on Iggly Squiggly Wiggly! We’re going to the beach today, grab your towel we’re leaving quickly. I’d like to get there early, Mama Wiggly called out loud. The temperature today so hot, it’s bound to attract a crowd. Throw your little red bucket, and your little yellow spade, leaving room for my book in the beach bag that I made.
Lying in the hot sand Iggly Squiggly very happy. Then came a little dog licky-licky and so snappy. If you don’t mind Iggly Squiggly said, could you please stop licking toes. A sensation I don’t need right now so tickly with your nose. A whistle from the distance had the little dog leave. Legs buckled as it ran off, marking sand in a weave.
I’m going for a swim Mama, would you come with me? We can jump the big waves, the ones out there that I can see. Between the flags he ran to the water very glistening. Iggly Squiggly singing his favourite song but nobody was listening. The water was so refreshing and inviting Iggly Squiggly thought. Staying in so long his skin went very wrinkly white and taut.
Running back to Mama Wiggly who was reading her new book. Too many words for Iggly Squiggly so no urge to have a look. His mind was on the hamper and the yummy food inside. Iggly Squiggly was exhausted and so hungry from the tide. I’ve made some special sandwiches Iggly, with jelly jam and cheese. The very words made his mouth water. Taste guaranteed to please.
Tearing off the plastic wrap, about to take a bite. Iggly Squiggly heard a voice he knew, then saw a pleasant sight. Little Poe, running towards him, carrying the biggest cone of ice-cream. I bought this for you Iggly but too early it would seem. Perhaps I’ll eat it myself to stop it dripping down my sleeve. Unless you can convince Mama Wiggly, that the sandwich you should leave.
Face covered in ice-cream, it was hard to stop it running. The sun was streaming down, Little Poe had been so cunning. Whilst Iggly Squiggly licked the ice-cream to stop it melting on the sand, Little Poe gobbled the sandwich fast directly from his hand. Licking his lips so proudly he yelled out the biggest loudest YUM. That’s the best sandwich he repeated in a blissful gloating hum.
Surprised to see another sandwich coming from the hamper, sent Little Poe off towards home, so fast did he then scamper. I always come prepared said Mama Wiggly with a giggle. That Little Poe, that friend of yours, got the one without the pickle. Iggly Squiggly’s smile stretched from ear to ear it felt. It was indeed a good thing to eat the ice-cream as it melt.
This was the best day at the beach said a very tired Iggly Squiggly at 6:20pm
